The Quality Department of the Guyana Power and Light incorporated became operational in the latter part of 2009. The Department was tasked with implementing, monitoring and maintaining a structured Quality Management System in accordance with the ISO 9001:2008 Standard Requirements. Also, to ensure that the organization’s structure, procedures, processes and resources needed to measure the effectiveness of its QMS are documented, implemented and are working effectively.
The Quality Department comprises of Quality Manager, Documentation Coordinator, Internal Quality Audit Coordinator and Country Coordinators in Essequibo, Berbice and Demerara.
The Quality Department also has under its purview a compliment of forty six (46) trained Internal Quality Auditors and fifty nine Documentation Specialists. These are regular staff who will be assigned these additional duties when required.
The Quality Manager is tasked with the coordination of all activities necessary for registration / certification to ISO 9001, ensuring that certification is maintained, development and maintaining effective media for informing and updating employees, facilitating the determination of customer requirements and expectation with respect to customer satisfaction; and ensuring the promotion of awareness of these customer requirements throughout the organization.
The Audit Coordinator (AC) is responsible for the implementation of the Procedures for conduct of internal Quality Audits including planning, execution, reporting and close-out of corrective action. The AC is also responsible for follow-ups of reports and Non-conformities issued to departments and to circulate them to Quality Manager and Management Representative. The AC utilizes the Internal Quality Auditors whenever audits have to be completed.
The Documentation Coordinator (DC) is responsible for developing, controlling and maintaining a Master List of all Quality Management System controlled documentation, including all forms. Also to ensure all procedures are documented in the correct format as outlined in the Quality Manual. The DC liaise with the Documentation Specialists during the documentation and controlling of procedures and forms for all departments.
The County Coordinators assist both the AC and DC work to carry out QMS related assignments in the various counties.
