Job Description/Key Resonsibilities

The opportunity awaits qualified results oriented professionals who are interested in joining our Team at Guyana Power & Light Inc. as such we invite applications from interested candidates with the requisite qualifications and experience to fill the vacant position of Administrative Assistant within System Planning & Research Department – Middle Street. Georgetown.

Under the general direction of the System Planning & Research Manager, the incumbent will be responsible for providing professional administrative support to the Manager and facilitate the efficient   operations of the Department in keeping with ISO 9001 Quality Management System and GPL’s Performance Management System (PMS). 

Key Responsibility Areas

  1.  Provide administrative support to ensure efficient operation of office.
  2. Answer phone calls, schedules meetings and supports visitors.
  3. Carry out administrative duties such as preparation of payroll report, preparation of minutes of meeting/discussions, filing, typing, copying, binding, scanning and any other relevant administrative duties relative to the day-to-day operation of the Department.
  4. Complete operational requirements by scheduling and assigning administrative projects and expediting work results.
  5. Make travel arrangements for senior staff through the relevant Department.
  6. Exhibit polite and professional communication via phone, e-mail, and mail.
  7. Supports team by performing tasks related to organization and strong communication.
  8. Ensure operation of equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirements, calling for repairs, maintaining equipment inventories and evaluating new equipment and techniques.
  9. Provide information by answering questions and requests.
  10. Maintain inventory level of stationery, anticipating needed supplies, placing, and expediting orders for supplies.
  11. Contribute to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.
  12. Perform other duties that may be assigned to you within the scope of your employment, from an Authorized Officer.

Required Qualifications and Experience

A Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration from the University of Guyana or an accredited institution or related field and a minimum of two (2) years of proven experience in administration or related field.

OR

 Diploma in Secretarial Science (G.T.I.) with a minimum of five (5) years’ experience relative to being an Administrative Assistant.
