In this regard, the Guyana Power & Light Inc. invites applicants with the requisite qualifications and experience to fill the vacant position of Training Instructor – Human Resources Development Department – Sophia.

Under the general direction of the Human Resources Development Manager, the incumbent will be responsible to supervise, plan, develop and co-ordinate all on-the-job training and be responsible for training Apprentices and Trainees, in both theory and practical, in the electrical field which includes Transmission and Distribution – Classroom and Practically in the Fields

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITY AREAS:

 

  1. Develop, supervise and co-ordinate all technical Training Programmes which are being conducted on site (In-Plant Training) as well as short courses being done at the Human Resources Development (HRD)Department for current employees.
  2. Prepare modules, lesson plans and learning / visual aids for courses to be conducted.
  3. Prepare test papers and conduct trade tests in the relevant trade areas.
  4. Assist with the development of standard procedures in collaboration with the respective departments/sections in the Transmission & Distribution Division of the
  5. Prepare technical spreadsheets.
  6. Ensure quarterly Assessment Reports for Apprentices are completed on time by the various Departments/Sections for submission to the Board of Industrial Training.
  7. Visit Apprentices and Trainee Technicians on locations, and submit report to the HRD Department on their performance and attendance on location.
  8. Research and recommend new work techniques that can improve technical Work in the Transmission & Distribution Areas.
  9. Teach the apprenticeship and Trainee Programmes.
  10. Monitor the progress of participations on, on-the-job training and to evaluate their performance.
  11. Assist the HRD Manager in the preparation of the annual budget and work plans.
  12. Emphasize safety on Training Programmes and on-the-job and to see that these safety rules and practices are observed at all times.
  13. Liaise with Training Officer on issues and concerns of Apprentices and Trainees.
  14. Maintain a daily record of attendance of Apprentices and Trainees at the institution.
  15. Investigate and recommend disciplinary actions for Apprentices and Trainees.
  16. Enforce strict compliance with the requirements of the safety and health legislation of the company.
  17. Ensure that the environment and area under control is kept clean and tidy.

COMPETENCY PROFILE:

  • Ability to work with limited supervision
  • Proficient in the use of computer Microsoft Applications
  • Ability to analyze and interpret Technical procedures and information
  • Ability to effectively present information
  • Be familiar with methods and procedures of testing transformers
  • Ability to effectively present information
  • Be familiar with methods for detecting and correcting faults, short circuits and other anomalies

Required Qualifications and Experience

Diploma in Technology (Electrical) from the University of Guyana or its equivalent with at least five (5) years’ experience at a Supervisory Level.

OR

Technical Diploma in Electrical Engineering from the Government Technical Institution or its equivalent with seven (7) years’ relevant experience at a Supervisory Level.

Salary is on the Senior Staff Level: Commensurate with qualifications and experience.
