SYSTEM STUDIES ENGINEER
Job Description/Key Responsibilities
We’re excited to announce the search for a resulted oriented, skill and motivated System Studies Engineer to join our team at the System Planning & Research Department – Carmichael Street, Georgetown.

Under the general direction of the Head – Network Planning Unit, the incumbent will be responsible for Performing general technical functions associated with the position of System Studies Engineer while, complying with the ISO 9001 Quality Management System, GPL’s Performance Management System (PMS), and other relevant policies and management systems of the Company.
KEY RESPONSIBILITY AREAS:
1. Assist the Head of Unit to conduct research to support GPL’s corporate aim of SUCCESS, LCDS-2030 and other National Energy Priorities.
2. Assist with updating GPL’s Annual Development and Expansion Programme.
3. Perform steady-state and dynamic simulations using industry standard tools.
4. Analyse system performance under various operating conditions and contingencies.
5. Identify system weaknesses and propose mitigation measures.
6. Contribute to the development of medium- and long-term transmission expansion plans.
7. Evaluate the technical feasibility of new generation and load connections.
8. Support the integration of renewable energy sources and emerging technologies.
9. Maintain and update power system models with accurate network data.
10. Validate simulation models against operational data and field measurements.
11. Prepare detailed technical reports, presentations, and planning documents.
12. Document methodologies, assumptions, and results for transparency and reproducibility.
13. Liaise with internal departments, utilities, regulators, and consultants.
14. Provide technical support during stakeholder consultations and regulatory reviews.
15. Remain updated with industry trends, tools, and best practices.
16. Contribute to research initiatives on grid modernization, smart grid technologies, and decarbonization strategies.
17. Contribute to Draft Project Concept Note, Terms of Reference, and Bankable Project Documents.
18. Contribute technical inputs to EPC and IPP RFPs.
19. Assist with the Review of Proposals and provide inputs to the composition of reports.
20. Lead or participate in Site Visits.
21. Enforce strict compliance with the requirements of the safety and health legislation, regulations, and contractual obligations.
22. Perform other duties that are pertinent to the objectives of the Department’s Action Plan, and by extension, the Divisional Business Plan, to support the Company’s Corporate Strategic Plan, as assigned by or through the Head of Unit, Manager, or the Divisional Director — Engineering Services.

Code.
§ Ability to multitask and meet deadlines.
§ Ability to analyse engineering drawing, designs and using the associated software.
§ Knowledge of circuit analysis with the appropriate software- PSS Sinical, PSSE & Etap.
§ Conversant with ISO Quality Management System.
§ Conversant with GPL Performance Management System (PMS).
§ Be conversant with the FACTORIES ACT CHAPTER 95:02, OCCUPATIONAL SAFETY
AND HEALTH ACT CHAPTER N0 32 OF 1997, ELECTRICITY SECTOR REFORM
ACT CHAPTER 57:01 OF 1999, ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION ACT NO 11 0F 1996
of the laws of Guyana, and the Guyana Power & Light License which include the STANDARD
TERMS AND CONDITIONS FOR ELECTRIC SERVICES of October 2010.
Required Qualifications and Experience
1. Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering or its equivalent from an accredited institution with at least three (2) years of utility experience relative to the Key Responsible Areas.

2. Master of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering or its equivalent from an accredited institution with at least one (1) year utility experience relative to the Key Responsible Areas.
