Job Description/Key Responsibilities

We’re excited to announce the search for a results oriented Driver/Operator, to join our team at the Inventory Department – MAIN STREET, Georgetown.

SUMMARY: Under the general direction of the Inventory Management Supervisor, the incumbent will be responsible for driving and operating the company’s vehicles in a safe and courteous manner.

Key Responsibility Areas:

1. Enforce compliance and comply with, all procedures related to Inventory Management and Occupational Safety and Health within Guyana Power and Light.

2. Drive the company’s vehicle and keep record of mileage;

3. Carry out routine check on vehicle to ensure for water, oil and correct tyre pressure;

4. Report promptly to your supervisor and the Fleet Maintenance Engineer any noticeable major defects and take proper care of vehicle;

5. Carry out all transportation runs that are authorized by functional supervisors;

6. Drive the company’s vehicle in a safe and careful manner, taking due regard for all Traffic Laws;

7. Fuel the assigned vehicle;

8. Keep the vehicle (inner and outer) in a clean and tidy manner;

9. Report all incidents and accidents immediately and submit a written report within twenty-four (24) hours of the occurrence;

10. Maintain defensive driving;

11. Transfer stock or non-stock items to or from warehouses;

12. Perform other duties that may be assigned to you within the scope of your employment, from an Authorized Officer.

 

COMPETENCY PROFILE:

· Ability to driver a multi-passenger vehicle safely and appropriately.

· Ability to read and interpret road signs

· Ability to perform minor vehicle repairs

· Ability to prepare concise and accurate record and reports

· Extensive knowledge of the operations and features of the vehicle.

· Ability to recognize vehicle maintenance needs.

Required Qualifications and Experience

1. Sound secondary education with five (5) years’ experience as a driver and must possess and maintain a safe driving record plus Holder of a Valid Driver’s License (Lorry).

OR

2. Alternatively: Ten (10) years’ experience in the relevant field and must possess and maintain a safe driving record plus Holder of a Valid Driver’s License (Lorry).
