Job Description/Key Resonsibilities

We’re excited to announce the search for a skilled and motivated Senior Network Technician to join our team at the Transmission & Distribution Department – BARTICA, ESSEQUIBO.

SUMMARY:

 

Under the general direction of the Electrical Engineer, Line Superintendent or Network Supervisor, the incumbent will be responsible for executing work as it relates to the technical functions of Transmission & Distribution, in a safe and efficient manner and perform the duties of an authorized person.

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITY AREAS:

 

  1. Locate, correct or assist to correct, when required, faults on energized or de-energized transmission, distribution and secondary lines and faulty streetlights, as required.
  2. Comply with the Company’s Safety Rules and Standard Line Practice Codes.
  3. Locate faults on the T. & D. Network with the use of instruments supplied by the Company.
  4. Perform all duties of the lower grade such as pole planting, pole plumbing, tree trimming etc. as the need arise.
  5. Direct the work of subordinates and assist with their training by practical demonstration.
  6. Deputize for the Network Supervisor when required and prepare time sheets with full requirements before the next working day.
  7. Assist with maintenance of energized or de-energized transmission, distribution, street lighting and secondary circuits using the required work method.
  8. Under general supervision inspect and patrol the transmission and distribution lines if required.
  9. Install and commission all types of three phase and single phase distribution transformers.
  10. Operate in emergency Rota as Team Leader.
  11. Drive the Company’s vehicle as required provided being a licensed driver and certified by the fleet maintenance department.
  12. Perform rescue operations for personnel in danger and render First Aid treatment in cases of emergency.
  13. Maintain and recommend disciplinary measures in keeping with the disciplinary policies.
  14. Perform other duties that may be assigned to you within the scope of your employment, from an Authorized Officer.

COMPETENCY PROFILE:

  • Through knowledge of overhead line construction and standard practice expertise in diagnostic and trouble shooting of T & D network
  • Knowledge of principle of electrical theory as applied to Network Distribution or power systems.
  • Knowledge of fundamental safety regulations, First Aid and method of applying  rescue operations
  • Ability to meet the public and establish co-operative relationship.
  • Ability to supervisor the work of others
  • Excellent communication skills (written and verbal)

Required Qualifications and Experience

  1. Diploma in Electrical Engineering from the University of Guyana or its equivalent from an accredited institution plus three (3) years relevant experience.

OR

  1. Three (3) C.S.E.C subjects inclusive of Mathematics and English plus an Ordinary Technician Diploma (Electrical) from Essequibo Technical Institute, Government Technical Institute or New Amsterdam Technical Institute or its equivalent plus five (5) years relevant experience.
