HEAD – GENERATION PLANNING UNIT
Job Description/Key Responsibilities
We’re excited to announce the search for a resulted oriented, skill and motivated Head – Generation Planning Unit to join our team at the System Planning & Research Department – Carmichael Street, Georgetown.

SUMMARY:
Under the general direction of the System Planning & Research Manager, the incumbent will be responsible for Performing general administrative and technical functions associated with the position of Head of Generation Planning Unit while, complying with ISO 9001 Quality Management System, GPL’s Performance Management System (PMS), and the other policies and management systems of the Company.
KEY RESPONSIBILITY AREAS:
1. Conduct research to support GPL’s corporate aim of SUCCESS, LCDS-2030 and other National Energy Priorities.
2. Complete Prescriptive Analysis concerning optimal generation mix planning, unit commitment and dispatch and capacity planning.
3. Ensure Power Systems can meet forecast energy and power demand reliably.
4. Identify and quantify risks to generation planning.
5. Align forecasts with national developments plans and economic indicators.
6. Analise and recommend the optimal mix of power generation resources.
7. Ensure generation plans comply with National Energy Policy, Renewable Energy Targets, Emissions and Environmental Regulations and all other energy-related policies and legislations.
8. Prepare Annual Least Cost Plan to Update the Company’s Development and Expansion Programme.
9. Ensure GPL’s Development and Expansion database relative to Power Generation is maintained updated and ensuring alignment with National Developments.
10. Development detail models to conduct power system studies and other simulations to provide technical guidance, such as Technical Losses Profiles for GPL’s Power Systems.
11. Provide administrative and technical guidance to complete Power System Studies, which include Feasibility Studies premised on Production Cost Modelling and relevant Techno-Economic analyses.
12. Provide technical input for regulatory filings and stakeholder consultation.
13. Draft Project Concept Note, Terms of Reference, and Bankable Project Documents.
14. Prepare/Provide Technical inputs to EPC and IPP RFPs.
15. Prepare Quarterly report on the Company’s Power Generation System Performance, which includes but not limited to Fuel Efficiency, Fuel and Production Costs, Forced Outage Rate, Installed and Available Capacities, and Availability.
16. Provide reviews and/or guide the process of Resources Assessment (Renewable and Non-Renewable).
17. Orient, mentor, coach, and train direct reports in an effort to aid the development of the requisite job skills.
18. Ensure Direct Reports’ compliance with Company Rules and Regulations and initiate disciplinary actions in keeping with Company’s Rules of Conduct.
19. Enforce strict compliance with the requirements of the safety and health legislation, regulations, and contractual obligations.
20. Investigate promptly and make recommendations through written reports with respect to infractions of Safety and Health regulations.
21. Conduct continuous assessment and monitoring of staff work performance and development and taking steps to correct poor work performance.
22. Perform other duties that are pertinent to the objectives of the Department’s Action Plan, and by extension, the Divisional Business Plan, to support the Company’s Corporate Strategic Plan, as assigned by or through the Manager or the Divisional Director – Engineering Services.

§ Knowledge of Production Cost Modelling tool through the use of the appropriate software-
Plexos.
§ Conversant with ISO Quality Management System

of the laws of Guyana, and the Guyana Power & Light License which include the STANDARD
TERMS AND CONDITIONS FOR ELECTRIC SERVICES of October 2010.
Required Qualifications and Experience
1. Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical/Mechanical Engineering from an accredited institution with at least four (4) years of utility experience relative to the Key Responsible Areas.

2. Master of Science Degree in Electrical/Mechanical Engineering from an accredited institution with at least one (1) year of utility experience relative to the Key Responsible Areas.
