ENERGY PLANNING ENGINEER
Job Description/Key Responsibilities
We’re excited to announce the search for a resulted oriented, skill and motivated Energy Planning Engineer to join our team at the System Planning Department – Carmichael Street, Georgetown.

Under the general direction of the Head of Generation Planning Unit, the incumbent will be responsible for Performing general administrative and technical functions associated with the position of: Energy Planning Engineer while, complying with ISO 9001 Quality Management System, GPL’s Performance Management System (PMS), and the other policies and management systems of the Company
KEY RESPONSIBILITY AREAS:
1. Conduct research to support GPL’s corporate aim of SUCCESS, LCDS-2030 and other National Energy Priorities.
2. Assist with updating the Development and Expansion Programme.
3. Contribute to the development of long-term energy and peak demand forecasts.
4. Assist with aligning forecasts with national developments plans and economic indicators.
5. Assist with analyzing and recommend the optimal mix of power generation resources.
6. Support decisions on baseload vs peaking vs intermittent resources.
7. Assist with ensuring generation plans comply with National Energy Policy, Renewable Energy Targets, Emissions and Environmental Regulations and all other energy-related policies and legislations.
8. Assist with providing technical input for regulatory filings and stakeholder consultation.
9. Conduct Techo-Economic Assessments of Power Generation Scenarios.
10. Monitor emerging technologies and their application to improve power system stability, reliability and efficiency.
11. Prepare technical reports, planning documents and presentations.
12. Provide input for short-term and medium-term operational planning.
13. Communicate with Internal and External Stakeholders to update the Department’s Database.
14. Spearhead/Participate in site visits for project preparation and execution.
15. Assisting with the day-to-day administration of the Unit.
16. Orient, mentor, coach, and train direct reports in an effort to aid the development of the requisite job skills.
17. Ensure Direct Reports’ compliance with Company Rules and Regulations and initiate disciplinary actions in keeping with Company’s Rules of Conduct.
18. Enforce strict compliance with the requirements of the safety and health legislation, regulations, and contractual obligations.
19. Investigate promptly and make recommendations through written reports with respect to infractions of Safety and Health regulations.
20. Conduct continuous assessment and monitoring of staff work performance and development and taking steps to correct poor work performance.
21. Perform other duties that are pertinent to the objectives of the Department’s Action Plan, and by extension, the Divisional Business Plan, to support the Company’s Corporate Strategic Plan, as assigned by or through the Manager or the Divisional Director – Engineering Services

§ Be conversant with International Standards such as IEEE, ANSI, ESRA, Safety Codes, GPL Grid

§ Ability to multitask and meet deadlines
§ Ability to analyse engineering drawing, designs and using the associated software.
§ Knowledge of Production Cost Modelling tool through the use of the appropriate software-
Plexos.
Required Qualifications and Experience
1. Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical/Mechanical Engineering or Economics from an accredited institution with at least two (2) years of utility experience relative to the Key Responsible Areas.

2. Master of Science Degree in Electrical/Mechanical Engineering or Economics from an accredited institution with at least one (1) year of utility experience relative to the Key Responsible Areas.
