Assistant System Studies Engineer-Distribution
Job Description/Key Resonsibilities
The opportunity awaits qualified results-oriented professionals who are interested in joining our team at Guyana Power and Light Inc. In this regard, G.P.L Inc. invites applications from interested candidates with the requisite qualifications and experience to fill the vacant position of Assistant System Studies Engineer – Distribution within the System Planning and Research Department, Middle Street, Georgetown.
Under the general direction of the System Studies and Automation Engineer, the incumbent will be responsible for assisting with the Distribution Network System Studies, management, report preparation and site visits relative to the Network Planning Unit of the Department.
KEY RESPONSIBILITY AREAS:
- Prepare all relevant models, review, and compile all pertinent modelling data to conduct distribution system studies.
- Assist with the development of resilient and energy efficient distribution expansion plans relative to SMART Grid technology.
- Evaluate the capacity of the current distribution system and in conjunction with the relevant T&D Zone, determine the regions where upgrades and expansions are required.
- Assess the reliability of the distribution network utilizing outage data, etc. and providing recommendations for improving the reliability of the distribution systems.
- Investigate developing technologies relative to improving the resilience of GPL’s distribution systems.
- Attend site visits with relevant stakeholders as deemed necessary.
- Prepare Conceptual Interconnection Designs and Layouts relative to GPL’s Distribution Systems.
- Assist with all relevant Cost Compilations.
- Enforce strict compliance with the requirements of the safety and health legislation, regulations, and contractual obligations.
- Perform other duties that are pertinent to the objectives of the Department’s Action Plan, and by extension, the Divisional Business Plan, to support the Company’s Corporate Strategic Plan, as assigned by or through the System Studies and Automation Engineer, Head of Unit, Manager, or the Divisional Director – Engineering Services.
COMPETENCY PROFILE:
| · Be conversant with international standards such as IEEE, ANSI, ESRA Safety codes, GPL Grid Code. |
| · Ability to analyze engineering drawing, designs and using the associated software. |
| · Knowledge of GPL Demand Forecast · Knowledge of the Electric Generation- Renewable and Conventional · Knowledge of the Electric Substation Systems. · Knowledge of Electric Transmission systems. · Knowledge of the Circuit Analysis with the appropriate Software- PSS Sinical, PSSE & Etap · Conversant with ISO Quality Management System · Be conversant with the FACTORIES ACT CHAPTER 95:02, OCCUPATIONAL SAFETY AND HEALTH ACT CHAPTER N0 32 OF 1997, ELECTRICITY SECTOR REFORM ACT CHAPTER 57:01 OF 1999, ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION ACT NO 11 0F 1996 of the laws of Guyana, and the Guyana Power & Light License which include the STANDARD TERMS AND CONDITIONS FOR ELECTRIC SERVICES of October 2010.

Required Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Guyana or its equivalent from an Accredited Institution with at least one (1) year relevant experience.
or
- Diploma in Electrical Engineering from the University of Guyana or its equivalent from an Accredited Institution with at least three (3) years of utility experience relative to the Key Responsible Areas.
Salary Grade: Commensurate with JM ‘C’ emoluments.
