Thunderstorm related Service Interruptions

 Wednesday, September 9, 2020: At approximately 21:21 hrs last evening during the thunderstorm, the L16 transmission line, which links the Company’s  Sophia and Good Hope substations tripped and  affected service to customers in sections of Georgetown, East Coast Demerara and West Coast Berbice.

Remedial work to restore electricity commenced immediately, with most areas being repowered at approximately 21:46 hrs. However, customers from Victoria to Bygeval were repowered at approximately 23:34 hrs due to fallen poles at Unity.

Further, at approximately 22:29 hrs customers from Vreed-en-Hoop to Vriesland, West Bank Demerara experienced a service interruption due to a feeder trip at the Vreed-en-Hoop substation. Following the completion of remedial work, affected areas were re-powered at approximately 22:53 hrs.

During the thunderstorm, numerous localized faults occurred across our served areas. Throughout, last evening and into today, September 9, 2020, emergency crews have been steadfastly performing remedial work to restore the supply of electricity to affected customers.
