PUBLIC NOTICE
MISPLACED CUSTOMER INTERFACE UNITS (CIU) FOR PREPAID METERS MAY RESULT IN POSTPAID INSTALLATIONS

The Guyana Power and Light Inc. (GPL) has observed over the last six months GPL has recorded an alarming number of prepaid meter reports; of which our investigation revealed that customers are misplacing the prepaid meter Customer Interface Units (CIU). The CIU is the instrument utilized to input the credit into the prepaid meter.
To mitigate this issue that is becoming a liability to GPL, our valued prepaid customers that are unable to locate GPL’s Prepaid Meter Customer Interface Unit will have those prepaid meters replaced with that of a postpaid meter to ensure accurate tracking and payment for electricity consumed.
Benefits of safeguarding the CIU
1. In an effort to eliminate the issue outlined above, customers are advised to position all CIU where it is accessible to the user(s) and GPL Technical Staff; who may have to interface with same occasionally;

2. In the event of an emergency, the CIU will be easily accessible in cases of emergency; and

3. It will be protected against potential damage(s) that can result in power disruption.
In this regard, GPL will continue to partner with you to deliver quality service and customer satisfaction.
Remember: if you misplace the CIU, your meter will be replaced with a postpaid meter, where you will be required to pay a security deposit.
