Demerara-Berbice Interconnected System Service Interruption

Georgetown, Guyana: Monday, April 12, 2021: At approximately 07:14 hrs, a fault developed at the Guyana Power and Light Inc. (GPL) Garden of Eden Power Plant which caused an overload of four (4) engines at the Kingston Power Plant, resulting in a shutdown the Demerara-Berbice Interconnected System (DBIS).

Restoration efforts commenced immediately; at approximately 07:38 hrs incremental power restoration commenced. All areas were repowered at approximately 09:22 hrs.

Immediately following full service restoration, our technical team commenced a comprehensive investigation to determine the root cause of the fault at the Garden of Eden Power Plant to inform any corrective action(s).
