DBIS Service Interruptions due to strong winds and heavy rainfall
Tuesday, September 8, 2020: At approximately 12:45 hrs yesterday, strong winds and heavy rainfall caused a tree to fall on a feeder emanating from the Guyana Power and Light Incorporated (GPL) New Georgetown Substation, resulting in a fault, which affected service to customers from Houston to Nandy Park, East Bank Demerara.
While remedial works were underway to remove the fallen tree that was resting on the feeder, our engineers attempted to repower the affected areas using an alternate route. However, this was not successful due to voltage issues. Customers were repowered at approximately 21:45hrs, following the completion of remedial work.
Additionally, due to the inclement weather, localized faults were reported in several areas in Georgetown, East Coast and East Bank. These faults were addressed and customers were repowered yesterday evening.
Further, at approximately 23:51 hrs the 69Kv Bus Bar breaker at our Sophia Substation tripped, de-energizing three transmission lines, the L5, L10 and L13. Customers in Berbice, sections of Georgetown, East Coast and East Bank Demerara were affected.
Power was restored incrementally when the transmission lines were returned to operation.
Our company remains cognizant of the inconveniences associated with service interruptions and offers sincere apologies to our valued customers.
